Growth in operating income for hotels in 2014

Operating income in the group for ‘Hotels and similar accommodation’ rose by 3.7 per cent from 2013 to NOK 23.7 billion in 2014. Operating margin dropped from 1.2 per cent to 0.4 per cent in the same period.

Employment for the Norwegian hotels was 4.9 per cent higher in 2014. The value added increased to NOK 9.7 billion.

Employment in the whole division of ‘Accommodation’ increased by 4.5 per cent to a total of 31 000 in 2014. Value added was NOK 11.1 billion for the local kind-of-activity units in this division, which is 5.4 per cent higher than in 2013. The production value increased by 4.4 per cent and was NOK 26.7 billion in 2014.

Growth for restaurants and cafes

The sub-class ‘Restaurants and mobile food services’ is by far the largest sub-class in the division ‘Food and beverage service activities’, and its turnover went up by 5.4 per cent in 2014.

The operating income in the division for ‘Food and beverage services’ increased by 4.8 per cent to NOK 47.6 billion in 2014. The value added was 5.2 per cent higher than in 2013.
