Decrease in domestic trips

Norwegians aged 16-79 took 4.1 million domestic trips with at least one overnight stay in the 3rd quarter of 2015; a decrease of 13 per cent compared with the 3rd quarter of 2014.

More than 2.9 million Norwegians aged 16-79 travelled in the 3rd quarter of 2015; a decrease of 6 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Domestic trips by car

Seventy per cent of domestic trips are undertaken in private or rented vehicles, and 68 per cent of outbound trips are by plane.

Hotels used in business and outbound trips

Ninety per cent of business trips and 61 per cent of outbound trips entailed the use of a hotel in the 3rd quarter of 2015. Private accommodation was most popular in both inbound and holiday trips, with 52 and 48 per cent respectively.

First half year

Norwegians made 18.4 million trips during the first nine months of the year; a decrease of 7 per cent compared to the first nine months in 2014. Domestic trips decreased 9 per cent, while outbound trips deceased 3 per cent. Holiday and business trips decreased by 6 and 10 per cent respectively.

The travel survey is carried out among 2 000 Norwegians between 16 and 79 years of age. A new sample is drawn every quarter.

The uncertainty calculated with 95 per cent certainty for the 3rd quarter of 2015 is:

• Number of trips: Published value NOK 7 million. Interval: NOK 6.6 million to 7.5 million

• Nights: Published NOK 40 million. Interval: NOK 39.3 million to 40.7 million

• Tourist expenditure: Published value NOK 58.9 billion. Interval: NOK 54.8 billion to NOK 63 billion
