Increase in outbound trips in 2013

Norwegians are travelling abroad more often compared with 2004 when the Travel survey started. In 2013, the total number of outbound trips reached an all-time high.

Outbound trips increased by 56 per cent in the period 2004 to 2013. Domestic trips have also increased, but only by 1 per cent. In 2013, 39 per cent of trips were abroad. In 2004, the share of outbound trips was 29 per cent.

Less outbound trips in 4th quarter

Norwegians took 1.9 million outbound trips during the 4th quarter of 2013; a decrease by 10 per cent compared with the 4th quarter of 2012.

The Travel survey is based on a random sample, which gives uncertain figures.

The estimated calculation of uncertainty for the 4th quarter of 2013 shows the value, with 95 per cent certainty within these intervals:

• Number of trips: Published value 5.2 million. Interval: 4.8 million to 5.6 million.

• Number of nights: Published value 22.5 million. Interval: 21.7 million to 23.3 million.

• Expenditure: Published value NOK 27.8 billion. Interval: NOK 24.8 billion to NOK 30.8 billion.
