Increase in administrative costs

Administrative costs increased by 4.4 per cent from the 3rd quarter of 2012 to the 3rd quarter of 2013. The total cost index for domestic sea transport in the 3rd quarter of 2013 was 1.1 per cent higher than a year ago.

The sub-index for fuel costs was at 159.4 in the 3rd quarter of 2013. This sub-index had the highest increase from the 2nd quarter of 2013, of 7.4 per cent. Compared with the same quarter in 2012, the sub-index decreased by 1.8 per cent. In the capital costs group, financing had the largest relative decline from the previous quarter, with a 3.1 per cent drop. This sub-index is based on the 3-month nominal NIBOR from Norges Bank (Norwegian money market rate). The average for the three-month nominal NIBOR was 2.11 and 1.71 per cent in the 3rd quarters of 2012 and 2013 respectively.

The total cost index for domestic sea transport was at 116.0 in the 3rd quarter of 2013; an increase of 1.1 per cent from the same period in 2012, and an increase of 1.8 per cent compared to the 2nd quarter of 2013.
