3 per cent increase in overnight stays

Norwegian and foreign intermediaries of huts arranged a total of 1,53 millions overnight stays in private cabins in Norway in 2002. This is an increase of 3 per cent compared with 2001. The foreign business increased by 2 per cent, while the domestic business went up 12 per cent.

Germany was the largest market with a market share of 68 per cent in 2002, and this is a 2 per cent decrease compared with 2001. The two other large markets, Denmark and Sweden, both increased, by 2 and 15 per cent respectively.

Significant seasonal fluctuation in demand

The demand varies from 12 000 to 311 000 overnights depending on the season of the year. Further monthly details are given in figure 1.

The number of foreign overnights stays in percentage of total overnights stays, also shows seasonal fluctuation, from 47 per cent in November to 94 per cent in August. Further monthly details are given in figure 2.

Overnight stays increased in December

The intermediaries of huts arranged a total of 12 000 overnights stays in November 2002, a decrease of 0.6 per cent compared with November the year before. The corresponding figures for December was 88 000 overnights stays, an increase of 20 per cent from the same month in 2001.
