More guest nights in March

Norwegian hotels recorded 1.42 millions guest nights in March 2004 - an increase of 5 per cent compared with March last year. The domestic market increased by 7 per cent, and the foreign market increased by 2 per cent.

The largest foreign market Denmark decreased by 13 per cent compared with March last year. Sweden and the United Kingdom, the second and the fourth largest foreign markets in March, increased by 15 and 25 per cent respectively, while the third largest foreign market Germany was about unchanged.

Increased occupancy rates

Compared with March last year, the occupancy rate for rooms increased by 4.2 percentage points from 48.4 to 52.6 per cent. The occupancy rate for beds increased by 1.8 percentage points from 35.6 to 37.4 per cent.

Decreased room prices and increased lodging revenue

The average room rate in March was NOK 722 compared with NOK 725 in March last year. The lodging revenue increased from NOK 628 millions in March last year to NOK 685 millions in March this year.

After first quarter

After the first quarter of 2004, there has been 3.7 millions guest nights. This is an increase of 5 per cent compared with first quarter last year.
