Record year for air transport

A total of 48 million passengers were carried to and from Norwegian airports in 2011. This is 4.3 million more passengers than in 2010; an increment of 9.7 per cent.

A total of 21 million passengers travelled to and from Oslo Gardermoen, 5.7 million from Bergen Flesland and almost 4 million to and from Stavanger Sola and Trondheim Værnes.

Strongest growth at Stavanger Sola

Stavanger Sola airport had an increment from 2010 to 2011 of 12.1 per cent in the total number of passenger. The next strongest growth was at Trondheim Værnes, which had an increment of 11.5 per cent, followed by Bergen Flesland and Oslo Gardermoen with a 10.6 and 10.3 per cent increment respectively during the same period.

The 4 biggest airports

Oslo Gardermoen, Bergen Flesland, Trondheim Værnes and Stavanger Sola are the 4 biggest airports measured in passenger numbers. A total of 71.2 per cent of all domestic and international passengers were registered in these 4 airports in 2011. These four airports account for 42.5 per cent of the growth in the number of passengers on domestic flights, and the corresponding figure for international flights is 35.1 per cent.

Record for aircraft movements and number of seats

There were 750 000 aircraft movements and 78 million seats available to and from Norwegian airports in 2011. A total of 32 000 more aircraft movements and 4.2 million more seats than 2010; an increment of 4.4 per cent for aircraft movements and 5.7 per cent for seat numbers.

Sharp decrease for Moss Rygge

Moss Rygge had a 45 per cent decrease, or 135 000 fewer passengers in 2011 compared to 2010. The number of passengers on international flights went from 1.1 to 1.5 million; an increment of 34.0 per cent. Sandefjord Torp airport showed the opposite trend. The number of passengers on domestic flights went up 6.3 per cent, while for international flights decreased by 20.0 per cent.

4th quarter, same trend as 2011

During the 4th quarter of 2011, there were 12 million passengers to and from Norwegian airports; an increment of 8.0 per cent compared to the same quarter in 2010. In the same period, there were 190 000 aircraft movements and 20 million seats available. Oslo Gardermoen had over 5 million passengers, Bergen Flesland 1.5 million, while Stavanger Sola and Trondheim Værnes had 1 million passengers each in the 4th quarter of 2011.
