Continued increase in air transport

Passengers carried to and from Norwegian airports totalled 11.2 million in the 4th quarter of 2010. This represents an increase of 6.6 per cent compared to the same quarter of 2009.

This growth was dominated by Oslo Gardermoen, Bergen Flesland and Moss Rygge. The increase in passengers carried to and from these airports was 364 000, 111 000 and 157 000 respectively from the 4th quarter of 2009 to the 4th quarter of 2010.

More international traffic at Rygge than Torp

In the 4th quarter of 2009, 147 000 passenger flew on international flights from Moss Rygge airport, while the corresponding figure for Sandefjord Torp was 350 000. A year later, during the 4th quarter of 2010, Rygge has 320 000 passengers while Torp has 255 000. Rygge increased its international traffic by 173 000 passengers, while Torp’s traffic fell by 95 000. Oslo Airport Gardermoen, in comparison, had an increase of 216 000 passengers on international flights.

No change in goods transport

A total of 11 500 tonnes of goods were transported to and from Norway during the 4th quarter of 2010; mainly from Oslo Airport Gardermoen. Goods transport between national airports was about 3 000 tonnes, which is more or less the same amount as the 4th quarter of 2009.

Increased capacity

The number of air craft movements at Norwegian airports was 182 000 in the 4th quarter of 2010; an increase of 2 per cent compared to the 4th quarter of 2009. The corresponding number of seats was 18.8 million; an increase of 4 per cent compared to the same quarter of 2009.

One in two seats empty between Bergen and Stavanger

In the 4th quarter of 2010 there were 1 200 departures, 169 000 seats and 85 000 passengers from Bergen to Stavanger. This means that about 85 000 seats were sold. In other words, 50 per cent of the seats were empty.
