The median value of private broadband speed is 15.3 Mbit/s in Oppland and 15.5 Mbit/s in Hedmark. A typical broadband in Rogaland on the other hand is 42.8 Mbit/s.

On a national level, the median broadband speed showed a modest growth, from 25.6 Mbit/s in the previous quarter to 26.3 Mbit/s in this quarter. The average transmission capacity is 43.0 Mbit/s, up from 40.2 Mbit/s in the previous quarter.

Oslo has the highest transmission capacity

Oslo now has the highest average transmission capacity for private broadband subscriptions, with 53.0 Mbit/s. Rogaland is just behind, at 52.9 Mbit/s.

However, Rogaland still has the largest share of private broadband subscriptions at 32 Mbit/s or higher, with 63 per cent. Finnmark has the lowest share of private broadband subscriptions at 32 Mbit/s or higher, with only 20 per cent.

Business broadband capacity increases

The average transmission capacity for fixed business broadband has increased to 24.5 from 22.9 Mbit/s in the previous quarter. At the same time, the median value increased to 13.0 Mbit/s compared to 12.0 in the previous quarter.

Business broadband subscriptions with a capacity of more than 32 Mbit/s total 18 per cent. Among private broadband subscriptions, 40 per cent have this capacity.

Private broadband coverage grows

The number of private broadband subscriptions with fixed access in Norway, including Svalbard, was 1 929 000 at the end of the 2nd quarter of 2016. Compared to the same quarter last year, this is an increase of 61 000 subscriptions.

In total, the calculated broadband penetration rate in the 2nd quarter of 2016 is 83.2 per cent, compared to 82.6 per cent in the pervious quarter. The figure for private broadband subscriptions per 100 households varies between 91 per cent in the county of Oslo and 72 per cent in the county of Finnmark.

From the 4th quarter of 2014 household figures from 1 January 2014 is used. The general increase in population and households reduces the penetration rate for private broadband by 1.5 percentage points. Additionally, another 1.5 pp reduction is caused by a new way of treating students. Even unmarried students are now registered in households at the place they study.
