Continued growth in sewage and sanitation

The strong growth within sewage and refuse disposal and similar activities continued in 2007. Turnover increased by 11.9 per cent from 2006. The total number of local KAUs was 994. This industry group employed 6 796 persons in 2007, which represents an 8.6 per cent increase. The compensation of employees rose to NOK 2.8 billion.

Collection and treatment of other waste

The 432 local KAUs involved in the collection and treatment of other waste had a turnover of NOK 10.9 billion in 2007; an increase of 10.1 per cent. This industry class employed 5 444 persons. The compensation of employees was NOK 2.4 billion; an increase of 1.2 per cent.

Collection and treatment of sewage

The total local KAUs involved in the collection and treatment of sewage had turnover of NOK 1.3 billion in 2007; an increase of 7.7 per cent. The number of local KAUs was 151, and 905 persons were employed in this industry class.

Sanitation, remediation and similar activities

The local KAUs within sanitation, remediation and similar activities employed 447 persons and had a turnover of NOK 553 million in 2007. The number of local KAUs was 411.

Statistics on enterprise level

The structural business statistics for construction are compiled on local KAU level and on enterprise level. The figures on enterprise level may differ from figures on local KAU level. This is due to some enterprises being registered in one industry group according to main activity, while at the same time consisting of local KAUs in other groups.

Revision of industries

In 2007, the enterprises in Statistics Norway’s Central Register of Establishments and Enterprises were coded in accordance with the new Standard Industrial Classification (SN2007). The structural business statistics will be published in accordance with the new Standard Industrial Classification (SN2007) for the statistical year 2008 in November 2009. One of the major changes is that the major part Sewage and refuse disposal, sanitation and similar activities will be moved to a new section, Water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities.
