Price record on heating fuel

The price of heavy heating fuel increased by 17.6 per cent to NOK 1422 per tonne from March to April, according to figures from the London Spot Market. The spot price has not been higher since October 2000.

The increase in manufacturing prices was 1.8 per cent from March to April. The majority of the manufacturing groups included in the index experienced small price increases, but the main driver behind the increase in the index was the 10.9 per cent price increase of refined petroleum products. This group has seen an increase in prices of 37 per cent since December, due to the continuous increase in prices of crude oil. Although there was a slight fall in crude oil prices from March to April, the price level remains very high.

The prices of energy goods increased by 0.3 per cent, while consumer goods and capital goods increased by 0.4 and 0.7 per cent respectively, all classified according to the main industrial grouping.

12-month rate: April 2004 to April 2005

In manufacturing, prices increased by 6.8 per cent compared to April 2004. The prices of refined petroleum products increased by 31.2 per cent and contributed most to the general price increase. In addition, the prices of fabricated metal products, and chemicals and chemical products have increased by 6.5 and 6.1 per cent in the last 12 months.

The total index for oil and gas extraction was 33.4 per cent higher than in April 2004.
