Rise in prices of oil products

The price index of first-hand domestic sales increased by 1.2 per cent from July to August 2009. Higher prices of petroleum products, non-ferrous metals and crude materials (inedible, except fuels) contributed most to the rise in the overall index.

;>Price development for some SITC groups. 2000=100

The price index of first-hand domestic sales increased by 1.2 per cent from July to August 2009, mainly due to higher prices of petroleum and petroleum products. Within this group, a 9.3 per cent increase in the price of crude oil (Brent blend) had the strongest influence.

Prices of non-ferrous metals and crude materials (inedible, except fuels) rose by respectively 8.8 and 3.7 per cent from July to August. Within the latter group the rise came mainly due to higher prices of metalliferous ores and metal scrap.

Within the remaining groups, there was mainly a drop in prices from July to August. The electricity price declined by 4.7 per cent, and is probably connected with more rainfall than “normal” in August.

A 0.9 per cent decline last twelve months

The price index of first-hand domestic sales fell 0.9 per cent from August 2008 to August 2009. This was mainly due to lower prices within mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials and crude materials (inedible, except fuels). The prices within these groups declined 19.1 and 7.9 per cent respectively. During the same period, prices of manufactured goods dropped 1.0 per cent.
