Higher tariffs on electricity

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) went up 0.5 per cent from September to October this year. The increase is due to higher tariffs on electricity and a rise in prices for clothing and footwear. The CPI for October this year was 103.1 (1998=100) and the year to year growth was 2.5 per cent.

The tariffs on electricity to private households rose by 7 per cent from September to October. The energy companies that did not increase their tariffs in September were the ones that boosted their prices in October. Altogether the tariffs have increased by 13 per cent since August of this year.

Year to year growth

In October the year to year growth for the CPI was 2.5 per cent. In September it was 2.1 per cent and in August 1.9 per cent. This increase is mainly due to higher tariffs on electricity in September and October this year, combined with a small decrease on tariffs in the same period last year.
