HICP down 0.6 per cent

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway decreased by 0.6 per cent from May to June 2012. Lower prices of electricity including grid rent, furniture and furnishings together with garments contributed most to the decline.

The HICP for Norway was 113.3 (2005=100) in June 2012, unchanged from June 2011. The zero growth in the last 12 months equates to a decline in the year-to-year growth of 0.2 percentage points from May.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Preliminary data for May 2012 show that the HICP for the EU and EEA was 118.5, while the HICP for the euro area was 115.9. The preliminary year-to-year growth in the HICP for May was 2.6 per cent for both the EU and EEA, and 2.4 per cent for the euro area. The year-to-year growth for June 2012 in the euro area is estimated at 2.4 per cent.

Detailed figures for June will be published on Eurostat’s website on 16 July.
