HICP rose 0.5 per cent

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway increased by 0.5 per cent from January 2011 to February 2011. The prices of food and airline fares contributed most, while the prices of books and electricity decreased.

The HICP for Norway was 113.0 (2005=100) in February 2011, compared to 111.8 in February 2010. The year-to-year growth was 1.1 per cent, down 0.9 percentage points from January.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Preliminary data for January 2011 shows that the HICP for the EU and the EEA was 112.9 and 113.0 respectively, while the HICP for the euro area was 110.5. The year-to-year growth in the HICP in January was 2.7 per cent for both the EEA and the EU, and 2.3 per cent for the euro area. In the euro area, the year-to-year growth for February 2011 is estimated at 2.4 per cent.

Detailed figures for February will be published on Eurostat’s website on 16 March.
