Marginal decrease in HICP

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway decreased by 0.1 per cent from December 2009 to January 2010. Prices on electricity and fuels increased, while prices on clothing and footwear together with furnishing fell.

The HICP for Norway was 110.2 (2005=100) in January 2010, compared to 107.3 in January 2009. The year-to-year growth was 2.7 per cent in January 2010, up 0.3 percentage points from December.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Provisional data for December 2009 shows that the HICP for both the EU and the EEA was 110.3, while the HICP for the euro area was 108.9. The year-to-year growth in the HICP in December was 1.4 for both the EEA and the EU while it was 0.9 per cent for the euro area. In the euro area the year-to-year growth for January 2010 was estimated at 1.0 per cent.
