HICP up 2.3 per cent from 2008 to 2009

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway increased by 0.2 per cent from November to December 2009. The rise in HICP was mostly due to higher prices of electricity and airline fares. From 2008 to 2009 the HICP on average increased by 2.3 per cent.

The HICP for Norway was 110.3 (2005=100) in December 2009, compared to 107.7 in December 2008. The year-to-year growth was 2.4 per cent in December 2009, up 0.5 percentage points from November. From 2008 to 2009 the HICP on average increased by 2.3 per cent. The prices of food were the most important factor to the growth. Other important factors were the prices of cultural services and alcoholic beverages and tobacco.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Provisional data for November 2009 shows that the HICP for both the EU and the EEA was 110.1, while the HICP for the euro area was 108.5. The year-to-year growth in the HICP in November was 1.1 for the EEA, 1.0 for the EU, and 0.5 per cent for the euro area. In the euro area the year-to-year growth for December 2009 is estimated at 0.9 per cent.
