1.0 per cent increase in HICP

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway increased by 1.0 per cent from August to September 2009. Increased prices of clothing and footwear after sales activity in the summer months were the most important factor behind the rise.

The HICP for Norway was 110.0 (2005=100) in September 2009, compared to 108.5 in the same month last year. The year-to-year growth was 1.4 per cent in September 2009, down 0.4 percentage points from August. See the consumer price index for more details.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Provisional data for August 2009 shows that the HICP for the EU and the EEA was 109.7, while the HICP for the euro area was 108.1. The year-to-year growth in August for the EU and the EEA was 0.6 per cent, while it was -0.2 per cent for the euro area. In the euro area the year-to-year growth for September 2009 is estimated at -0.3 per cent.
