Growth in the HICP

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway increased by 0.6 per cent from May to June 2009. Higher airline fares, higher prices on fuel and lubricants and package holidays contributed most to the increase, while clothing prices dampened the increase in the HICP.

The HICP for Norway was 109.9 (2005=100) in June 2009, compared with 106.2 in the same month last year. The year-to-year growth was 3.5 per cent in June 2009, up 0.6 percentage points from May. See the consumer price index for more details.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Provisional data shows that the HICP for the EU and the EEA was 109.5 in May. For the euro area the HICP was 108.3. The year-to-year growth in May was 0.7 per cent for the EU, 0.8 for the EEA and 0.0 per cent for the euro area. In the euro area the year-to-year growth is estimated at -0.1 percent for June 2009.

Detailed figures for June will be published on Eurostat’s home pages on 15 of July.
