Growth in the HICP

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway increased by 0.4 per cent from March to April 2009. Higher fuel prices and prices on books contributed most to the increase, while prices of electricity dampened the increase in the HICP.

The HICP for Norway was 108.9 (2005=100) in April 2009, compared with 105.8 in the same month last year. The year-to-year growth was 2.9 per cent in April 2009, up 0.3 percentage points from March. See the consumer price index for more details.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Provisional data shows that the HICP for the EU and the EEA was 109.0 in March. For the euro area, the HICP was 107.8. The year-to-year growth in March was 1.3 per cent for both the EU and the EEA, and 0.6 per cent for the euro area. In the euro area the year-to-year growth is estimated at 0.6 percent for April 2009.
