High annual price growth for HICP

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway increased by 3.4 per cent from 2007 to 2008, mainly due to higher prices on electricity and food.

The HICP for Norway was 107.7 (2005=100) in December 2008, compared with 105.0 in December 2007. The year-to-year growth was 2.6 per cent in December 2008, compared with 3.3 per cent in November 2008. From November to December 2008 the HICP fell by 0.3 per cent. EU, EEA and euro area

Provisional data shows that the HICP for EU and EEA was 109.0 in November 2008. For the euro area the HICP was 108.0. The year-to-year growth was 2.8 per cent for EU and EEA, and 2.1 per cent for the euro area. In the euro area the year-to-year growth is estimated to 1.6 per cent for December.

Detailed figures for December will be published on Eurostats home pages the 15. January.
