HICP up 0.1 per cent

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway rose by 0.1 per cent from July to August 2008, mainly due to higher prices of electricity. Lower prices of transport, food and clothing pulled in the opposite direction.

The HICP for Norway was 107.0 (2005=100) in August 2008, compared with 102.8 in August 2007. The year-to-year growth was 4.1 per cent in August 2008, compared with 3.9 per cent in July 2008.

The HICP in July was 109.1 for the EU and the EEA, compared with 108.5 in the euro area. The year-to-year growth in July was 4.4 per cent for the EU, 4.5 per cent for the EEA, and 4.0 per cent for the euro area. Eurostat's flash estimate for the year-to-year growth in the HICP for the euro area was 3.8 per cent for August 2008.
