Rise in HICP

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway increased by 0.4 per cent from February to March. The increase was mainly due to higher prices of clothing and air tickets. Lower electricity prices contributed in the opposite direction.

Harmonized index of consumer prices

The HICP for Norway was 105.8 (2005=100) in March 2008, compared with 102.9 in March 2007. The year-to-year growth was 2.8 per cent, compared with 3.1 per cent in February. See the consumer price index for more details.

EEA, EU and euro area

The HICP for the EU and the EEA was 106.6 in February, compared with 106.2 in the euro area. The year-to-year growth in February was 3.4 per cent for the EU and the EEA, and 3.3 per cent for the euro area. Eurostat's flash estimate for the year-to-year growth in the HICP for the euro area is 3.5 per cent for March 2008.
