Food prices gave rise in HICP

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway increased by 0.8 per cent from January to February. The increase was mainly due to rising prices of food and furniture. Lower prices of electricity were the main contributor in the opposite direction.

Harmonized index of consumer prices

The HICP for Norway was 105.4 (2005=100) in February 2008, compared with 102.2 in February 2007. The year-to-year growth was 3.1 per cent in February 2008, compared with 2.9 per cent in January 2008. See the consumer price index for more details.

EEA, EU and euro area

The HICP in January 2008 for the EEA and EU was 106.2, compared with 105.8 in the euro area. The year-to-year growth in January was 3.4 per cent for the EEA and the EU, and 3.2 per cent for the euro area. Eurostat's flash estimate for the year-to-year growth in the HICP for the euro area is 3.2 per cent for February 2008.
