Energy prices pulled HICP down

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway went down by 0.1 per cent from July to August 2007. Decreased prices for energy goods pulled the index down, while price increase for some services worked in the opposite direction.

The HICP for Norway was 102.8 (2005=100) in August this year, compared with 102.2 in August last year. The year-to-year growth for HICP in August was 0.6 per cent, down from 0,7 per cent in July. See http://www.ssb.no/english/kpi_en/ for more details.

EEA, EU and euro-area

The HICP for both the EEA and the EU stood at 104.4 in July 2007, while for the euro-area it stood at 104,3. The year-to-year growth in July was 1.9 per cent for the EEA, 2.0 per cent for the EU, while the euro-area had a growth of 1.8 per cent. Eurostat's flash estimate for the year-to-year growth in the HICP for the euro-area is 1.8 per cent for August 2007.
