Price fall on clothing and footwear

The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) for Norway decreased by 1.3 per cent from December 2006 to January 2007. Sales activities on clothing and footwear, and lower electricity prices were the significant factors that pulled the HICP down.

Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices

The HICP for Norway was 101.7 (2005=100) in January 2007, compared to 100.5 in January last year. The year-to-year growth for HICP in January was 1.2 per cent, down from 2.2 per cent in December 2006. See Consumer Price Index for more details.

EEA, EU and euro-area

The HICP for EEA and the euro-area stood at 103.2 and 103.0, respectively in December 2006. The year-to-year growth was 2.1 per cent for EEA and EU, while the euro-area had a growth of 1.9 per cent. Eurostat's flash estimate for the year-to-year growth in the HICP for the euro-zone is 1.9 per cent for January 2007.
