HICP down 0.3 per cent

The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) for Norway fell by 0.3 per cent from December 2005 to January 2006. The main factors behind the drop were price decreases of clothing and furniture. The prices of social protection services fell as well, mainly due to the new maximum fee regulation of household payments in kindergartens.

Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices

From the January index of 2006 the HICP has changed the reference year from 1996 to 2005. The change was done for all countries in EEA.

The HICP for Norway stood at 100.5 in January 2006, compared with 98.7 in January 2005. The year-to-year growth for HICP in January was 1.8 per cent, down form 2.0 per cent in December 2005. See http://www.ssb.no/kpi_en/ for more details.

EEA, EU and euro-zone

The HICP for EEA and the euro-zone stood at 119.0 and 119.5, respectively in December 2005. The year-to-year growth was 2.1 per cent for EEA and EU and 2.2 per cent for the euro-zone, both decreased by 0.1 percentage point from November. Eurostat's flash estimate for the year-to-year growth in the HICP for the euro-zone is 2.4 per cent for January 2006.
