Harmonized index up 0.2 per cent

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway increased by 0.2 per cent from January to February 2004, and was mainly caused by higher prices of petrol and a price rise after January sales on clothing and furniture. Lower tariffs on electricity dampened the price increase.

The HICP for Norway was 116.1 (1996=100) in February this year in comparison with 117.9 in February last year, a decrease of 1.5 per cent the last 12 months. Please see the Consumer Price Index for more details .

Harmonized index of consumer prices

The year-to-year growth in the HICP for the European Union (EU) and the EEA was 1.8 and 1.7 per cent respectively in January. The increase in the Euro-zone was 1.9 per cent in the same period. Eurostat have in advance estimated the year-to-year growth in the Euro-zone to 1.6 per cent in February.
