Strong decrease in harmonized index

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway fell by 1.4 per cent from January 2003 to January 2004. The price decrease was mainly caused by a strong fall in the tariffs on electricity from January 2003 to January 2004.

The HICP was 115.9 (1996=100) in January, up 0.1 per cent from December. Please see the Consumer Price Index for more details.

EEA, EU and the Euro-zone

The year-to-year growth for the EEA and the European Union (EU) was 1.8 per cent in December. In advance, Eurostat estimated the year-to-year change in December in the Euro-zone to 2.1 per cent, while the actual price growth turned out to be 2.0 per cent. Expected growth in the consumer prices in the Euro-zone in January is 2.0 per cent.
