Price growth of 2.1 per cent in the EEA

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for the EEA was 111.9 (1996=100) in January. The year-to-year change was 2.1 per cent, down from 2.2 per cent in December. In comparison, the year-to-year growth in Norway was 4.2 per cent.

The HICP in the Euro-zone was 112.1 in January. The year-to-year growth in January was 2.2 per cent, down from 2.3 per cent in December.

For Norway the HICP was 117.6 in January, up 1.6 per cent from December. From January 2002 to January 2003 the consumer prices rose by 4.2 per cent.

Due to methodical changes Germany has revised their HICP from January 2000 to December 2002, and the data is flagged as provisional. This has also affected the data for the Euro-zone, EU and EEA.
