Increase in EEA consumer prices

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for the EEA was 109.9 (1996=100) in January, an increase of 0.3 per cent from December. From January 2001 to January 2002 the HICP increased by 2.5 per cent while the year-to-year growth in December was 1.9 per cent.

The HICP for the Euro-zone was 110.1 in January, up 0.5 per cent from December. The year-to-year growth in January was 2.7 per cent, up from 2.0 per cent in December.

For Norway the HICP in January was 112.9, up 0.1 per cent from December. The year-to-year change in the consumer prices declined from 1.6 per cent in December to 0.9 per cent in January.
