Harmonized index up 0.5 per cent

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway was 113.7 (1996=100) in April 2001, an increase of 0.5 per cent from March. From April 2000 to April 2001 the HICP increased by 3.6 per cent compared with 3.5 per cent in March.

The increase from March to April is mainly due to higher prices of petrol, increased prices of airline tickets and higher tariffs on electricity.

The HICP for the EEA was 108.3 (1996=100) in March, an increase of 0.4 per cent from February. The 12-month rate for March was 2.3 per cent. The HICP for the European Monetary Union was 108.3 in March, up 0.4 per cent from February. The year to year growth in March was 2.6 per cent.
