Increased energy prices

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) was 107.5 (1996=100) in October, an increase of 0.6 per cent from September. The increase is due to a rise in energy prices and in particular the tariffs on electricity. From September to October tariffs on electricity rose by 7 per cent.

From October 1998 to October 1999 the HICP increased by 2.4 per cent. The year to year growth in September was 1.8 per cent.
