Wholesale prices rose by 1.9 per cent

The wholesale prices increased by a total of 1.9 per cent from the 4th quarter 2002 to the 1st quarter 2003. From the 1st quarter 2002 to the 1st quarter 2003 the wholesale prices increased by 1.3 per cent.

Five of the six major groups concerning the price index for wholesale trade increased from the 4th quarter 2002 to the 1st quarter 2003. The wholesale prices of non-agricultural intermediate products, waste and scrap increased the most by 5.2 per cent during this period. This increase was due to a major increase for the wholesale prices of fuel by 10 per cent from the 4th quarter 2002 to the 1st quarter 2003.

During the same period the wholesale prices of agricultural raw materials and live animals increased by 1.6 per cent and the wholesale prices of textiles decreased by 0.9 per cent.

Increased prices for non-agricultural intermediate products

Of the 6 major groups concerning price index for wholesale trade, only wholesale prices of non-agricultural intermediate products, waste and scrap increased by 7.4 per cent, from the 1st quarter 2002 to the 1st quarter 2003. The other 5 major groups decreased during this period. The wholesale prices of food, beverages and tobacco decreased the most by 2.8 per cent. The wholesale prices of agricultural raw materials and live animals decreased by 1.4 per cent.

From the 1st quarter 2002 to the 1st quarter 2003 the wholesale prices of fuel increased by

14 per cent.
