Wholesale prices decreased by 1.2 per cent

The wholesale prices decreased by a total of 1.2 per cent from the thirdquarter 2001 to the third quarter 2002. From the second quarter to the third quarter 2002 the wholesale prices decreased by 0.9 per cent.

Of the 6 major groups concerning the price index for wholesale trade, 4 showed a decrease and 2 an increase from the 3 r d quarter 2001 to the 3 r d quarter 2002. During this period the wholesale prices of food, beverages and tobacco decreased the most by 2.2 per cent. The wholesale prices of non-agricultural intermediate products, waste and scrap decreased by 1.8 per cent during the corresponding period.

 

This decrease was among other things due to the fact that the wholesale fuel prices index decreased by 4.1 per cent.

Within the same major group the wholesale prices of hardware, plumbing and heating equipment increased by 2.6 per cent.

The wholesale prices index of household goods decreased marginally by 0.1 per cent from the 3 r d quarter 2001 to the 3 r d quarter 2002. Within this major group the wholesale prices of clothing and footwear decreased the most by 2.8 per cent. The wholesale prices of furniture and non-electrical household articles and the wholesale prices of textiles both increased by 1.3 per cent.

The price index for other wholesale increased by 1.4 per cent during this period.

A moderate decrease in the fuel prices

The wholesale prices of fuel decreased by 0.9 per cent from 2 n d quarter to the 3 r d quarter 2002

During this period the wholesale prices of agricultural raw materials and live animals decreased most of all by 2.5 per cent and the wholesale prices of food, beverages and tobacco decreased by 1.9 per cent.

During this period the wholesale prices of wood, construction materials and sanitary equipment increased by 0.6 and 0.5 per cent respectively.
