House prices down 0.5 per cent

Houses prices decreased on average by 0.5 per cent from the second to the third quarter of 2010, but were still 6.7 per cent higher than a year ago.

Detached houses decreased in value by 1.7 per cent, while row houses and flats in blocks increased by 0.8 and 1.4 per cent respectively from the second to the third quarter this year.

House prices increased in the large cities during the last quarter, except Bergen, where the prices fell by 0.7 per cent. The sharpest rise was in Trondheim, where house prices increased by 2.8 per cent on average. The other regions had a decline in prices last quarter.

House prices up 6.7 per cent last year

House prices increased by 6.7 per cent from the third quarter of 2009 to the third quarter of 2010. The cities of Stavanger and Trondheim had the strongest rise in house prices with 14.1 and 12.5 per cent respectively. In Oslo and Bærum the house prices increased by 6.1 per cent on average last year, while the rest of Akershus had the lowest growth by 4.8 per cent.

A total of 20 643 house sales are used in the index computation for the third quarter of 2010.
