Stable construction costs

The construction cost index of residential buildings increased by 0.1 per cent from January to February this year. The labour cost rose by 0.7 per cent. Material costs decreased by 0.4 per cent in the same period.

From January to February this year, the construction costs of multi-dwelling houses increased by 0.1 per cent, and detached houses of wood rose by 0.2 per cent. A heavy fall in steel prices contributed to the material costs of multi-dwelling houses falling by 0.6 per cent. The material costs of detached houses of wood decreased by 0.2 per cent. Wage statistics for the fourth quarter of 2008 are included in the construction cost, and are the main reason for the cost increase.

From February 2008 to February 2009, the construction costs of multi-dwelling houses and detached houses of wood increased by 3.4 and 3.0 per cent respectively. Material costs rose by 3.7 and 1.7 per cent in the same period.
