Strong increase in prices of timber

Overall construction costs of residential buildings increased by 1.5 per cent from March to April this year, while the material costs increased by 3.2 per cent in the same period. The main reason for the cost increase is rise in the prices of timber.

The last month the construction costs of detached houses of wood and multi-dwelling houses increased by 2.0 and 0.8 per cent respectively. The material costs rose by 4.0 and 1.9 per cent respectively from March to April this year.

The construction costs of residential buildings rose by 7.6 per cent last year. The material costs rose by 10.4 per cent in the same period.
