Increased material costs

The material costs of residential buildings increased by 2.1 per cent from December last year to January this year. The construction costs of residential buildings rose by 0.9 per cent in the same period.

The material costs of detached houses of wood and multi-dwelling houses increased by 2.3 and 1.6 per cent respectively from December last year to January this year. The material costs of carpentering and electrician installation work increased the most.

From January last year to January this year the construction costs of residential buildings increased by 6.2 per cent, while the material costs rose by 7.2 per cent in the same period. The construction costs of detached houses of wood rose by 6.4 per cent, which is the strongest increase since 1995.
