Construction costs up 3.4 per cent

The construction costs of residential buildings increased by 3.4 per cent from August last year to August this year. Material costs rose by 4.5 per cent in the same period.

The construction costs of multi-dwelling houses and detached houses increased by 4.2 and 3.1 per cent respectively in the twelve months from August 2003 to August 2004. The increase was 0.2 per cent and 0.1 per cent in August this year.

Wage statistics for the second quarter of 2004 are included in the figures and contributed to an increase in labour costs of 0.2 per cent from July to August.
