Slight increase in construction costs

The construction costs of residential buildings increased by 0.3 per cent from April to May this year. The material costs rose by 0.1 per cent.

The construction costs of multi-dwelling houses and detached houses increased by 0.3 per cent and 0.2 per cent respectively in the same period. Wage statistics for the first quarter 2004 are included and contributed to an increase of labour costs by 0.5 per cent in May compared with April this year.

The construction costs of residential buildings rose by 2.9 per cent in May 2004 compared with May 2003.
