Construction costs up 0.4 per cent

The index of residential buildings rose by 0.4 per cent in August compared with July 2003. Material costs increased by 0.1 per cent in the same period.

The increase in construction costs is due to the fact that wage statistics for the second quarter 2003 are included in the index of residential buildings for August. This contributed to an increase of labour costs by 1.0 per cent in August compared with July.

The construction costs of residential buildings rose by 2.5 per cent during last year. The material costs increased by 2.0 per cent in the same period.
