Construction costs up 0.5 per cent

The index of residential buildings rose by 0.5 per cent in February compared with January this year. Material costs increased by 0.2 per cent in the same period.

The construction costs of multi-dwelling houses and detached houses rose by 1.3 and 0.5 per cent respectively last month. In the same period the material costs for carpentering increased the most, by 0.4 per cent for detached houses of wood and 0.3 per cent for multi-dwelling houses.

The construction costs of residential buildings rose by 3.9 per cent during last year. The material costs increased by 2.2 per cent in the same period. Wage statistics for the fourth quarter 2002 are included and contributed to an increase of labour costs by 0.3 per cent in February compared with January this 2003.
