Slight rise in construction costs

The construction cost index of residential buildings increased by 0.2 per cent from June to July this year. The material costs rose by 0.3 per cent while labour costs remained unchanged in the corresponding period.

The material costs of electrical installations for detached houses and multi-dwelling houses increased by 0.9 per cent and 1.0 per cent respectively in the corresponding period. Other material costs rose up to 0.3 per cent.

The construction costs of residential buildings rose by 3.2 per cent in July 2002 compared with July 2001. Material costs and labour costs increased by 2.4 per cent and 4.6 per cent respectively.
