Construction costs rose by 0.5 per cent

The index of residential buildings increased by 0.5 per cent in March compared with February this year. Material costs rose by 0.5 per cent in the same period.

The cost of plumbing increased the most last month, by 1.2 for detached houses and by 1.1 per cent for multi-dwelling houses.

Wage statistics for the fourth quarter of 2001 are included in the construction cost figures for March and contribute to a labour cost increase by 0.5 per cent compared to the month before.

The construction costs of residential buildings rose by 3.2 per cent in March 2002 compared with March 2001. Labour costs and Material costs increased by 4.3 and 2.5 per cent respectively, in the same period.
