Building costs up 3.2 per cent

The index figures in January 2002 show a more moderate year-to-year growth rate in building costs. The main causes are small increases in transport- and machinery costs. But also for labour costs and material costs, the year-to-year growth slowed down during 2001.

The construction costs of residential buildings rose by 3.2 per cent in January 2002 compared with January 2001. Labour cost increased by 4.0 per cent, and material cost rose by 2.9 per cent in the same period.

The construction costs of residential buildings increased by 0.2 per cent in January 2002 compared with December 2001. Material costs rose by 0.6 per cent, and labour cost decreased by 0.4 per cent in the same period. The index of electrical installations increased the most by 1.9 per cent for detached houses and 1.7 per cent for multi-dwelling houses in January 2002 compared with December 2001.

New index for labour costs

Statistics Norway is publishing a new index, which measures the costs of labour in residential building industry. The index is published with figures back to January 2000.
