Construction costs up 0.6 per cent

The index of residential buildings increased by 0.6 per cent in September compared with August this year. Material costs rose by 0.3 per cent in the same period.

Wage statistics for second quarter of 2001 are included in construction costs of residential buildings for September and contribute to a cost increase of 0.6 per cent in September compared with August this year.

The cost of site preparation and plumbing increased most last month, by 1.0 and 0.9 per cent for detached houses respectively and 0.8 and 1.0 per cent for multi-dwelling houses in September compared with August this year.

The construction costs of residential buildings rose by 4.2 per cent in September 2001 compared with September 2000. Material cost increased by 4.1 per cent in the same period.
