Construction costs rose by 4.6 per cent

The construction costs of residential buildings in Norway increased by 4.6 per cent from December 1999 to December 2000. Material costs rose by 4.0 per cent in the same period. The costs of electricians and plumbers increased the most.

Over the course of the past year the index for electrical work increased by 7.9 per cent for detached houses and 7.3 per cent for multi-dwelling houses. The index for plumbing work increased by 7.4 per cent for detached houses and 6.9 per cent for multi-dwelling houses.

Overall construction costs for residential buildings rose by 0.8 per cent from November to December 2000. Wage statistics for the third quarter 2000 were included in the building cost index for December. Material costs increased by 0.1 per cent in this period.
