Construction costs up 4.2 per cent

The construction cost of residential buildings in Norway increased by a total of 4.2 per cent from August 1999 to August 2000. Material costs rose by 4.4 per cent in the same period. The difference between detached houses and multi-dwelling houses was small.

Over the course of the past year the subindex for electrical work increased by 6.5 per cent for detached houses and 5.8 per cent for multi-dwelling houses. The subindex for plumbing work increased by 6.4 per cent for detached houses and 6.1 per cent for multi-dwelling houses.

Overall construction costs for residential buildings rose 0.2 per cent from July to August 2000. Material costs increased by 0.3 per cent in this period. Material costs for electrical work increased by 0.5 per cent for detached houses and 0.4 per cent for multi-dwelling houses.
