Construction costs up 0.5 per cent

The construction cost of residential buildings in Norway increased by a total of 0.5 per cent from June to July 2000. Increased prices on materials for electrical installation work is the most important reason for increased construction costs.

Material costs for electrical work increased by 2.5 per cent for detached homes and 2.6 per cent for blocks of flats. Material costs for carpentering in detached homes and blocks of flats rose by 0.9 and 0.7 per cent, respectively.

Overall construction costs for residential buildings rose 4.1 per cent from July 1999 to July 2000. Material costs rose by 4.2 per cent in the same period. Over the course of the past year the subindex for electrical work increased by 6.4 per cent for detached homes and 5.7 per cent for blocks of flats. The subindex for plumbing work increased by 6.4 per cent for detached homes and 6.1 per cent for blocks of flats. This is significantly more than the other subindices, which rose between two and four per cent.
